Tees Valley’s Strategic Economic Plan has identified “Digital and Creative” and “Culture and Leisure” as two of seven key sectors which are vital in boosting the regional economy and growing the range and number of jobs here. To support these sectors, the Tees Valley Combined Authority has established a £20.5million Growth Programme for the Creative and Visitor Economies.

This investment will be used to drive forward the region’s cultural, creative and hospitality sectors and its destination marketing and management operations. We are also working as part of the The North East Screen Industries Partnership, focused on enhancing the offer of our television and film industries following a £25million commitment to the north-east by the BBC. This will nurture talent, help the sector grow and create a thriving environment for broadcasters and independent productions looking to work here.

The five strands of the programme

COVID-19 Recovery

The establishment of a new, independent, sector-led Task Force to advise on the development and delivery of a £1million Recovery Programme for the Visitor Economy post-coronavirus. Tees Valley LEP Board Member Annabel Turpin (Chief Executive of ARC, Stockton) was invited by the Mayor to Chair the group.

The Task Force brings together local leaders who collectively represent the breadth and diversity of the Tees Valley’s visitor, hospitality and culture sectors and will ensure that the 12-month programme is rooted in the experiences of sector businesses and responsive to the changing climate.
